Jim Steed- President 

Jim Steed joined the industry in February of 1993 as a technician in the Turf and Ornamental department of Neighborly Pest Management, Inc. in Roseville CA. He started the job while pursuing a degree in English and Philosophy. It wasn’t long before Jim found new responsibilities and joined the management team at Neighborly in 1996. In 2006 Jim became a minority owner and in April of 2013 Jim assumed full ownership of the company.

Jim has served in the Big Valley District for over 15 years as a Director and 3 Years as the Chair of the District. He has served on the Legislative Committee for the last 10 years and testified before Senate and Assembly Committees on behalf of PCOC 6 times. He has served as a PAPCO Trustee for three years and is also the Chair of that Committee. Jim helped to create the Public Relations Committee and chaired that committee for its first two years as they reworked PCOC’s web site.

Jim has served on a IPM Certification Review committee for the Structural Pest Control Board and Currently Serves on the Boards CE IPM Committee that is working on new CE standards for the Board.

Jim holds a Branch II Operators License, Branch III Field Reps License and a QAL License with categories ABCF.

 

Mike McKenzie – President-Elect

Mike McKenzie is a second generation PCO who has worked in the industry for 20 years. He began his career with Great Western Termite and Pest Control as a termite technician and progressed into a Service / Sales Manager. In 2003, Mike transitioned to Orkin Pest Control where he began working as a Sales Inspector. At Orkin, Mike progressed through several leadership positions and is currently an Assistant Region Manager with responsibilities throughout California.

Mike has served many different roles within PCOC over the past 10 years. He is a 3x District Chair, 8x Director (San Gabriel Valley), 6x Committee Chair (Termite / Membership), and is currently serving on the Scholarship Committee.

Mike has been married for 15 years to his wife Heather. They have two daughters, Mikayla (9) and Lorelai (5), and currently reside in Glendora, Ca.

 

Tom-GrastonTom Graston – Treasurer

Tom Graston was born and raised in Montreal Quebec and later moved to London, Ontario.  In 1988, he moved to California and lived in the Bay Area.  In 1998, Tom began his career in the pest control industry working for a national company as a commercial sales person, then promoted to sales manager and soon thereafter to a branch manager.  Tom made a career move to Clark Pest Control where he works as the branch manager in the Vacaville office.

Tom maintains both a Branch 2 and 3 Field Representative License.  He has been involved with PCOC serving the Big Valley District as Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer.  As a director for over 11 years, he has also chaired both Media and Membership Committees.  In addition to joining the Executive Committee, he will also serve as the chair for the new PCOC Building Committee.

In 2011, tragedy struck Tom’s family when his 19 year old nephew, Matt George, was killed by a drunk driver.  Tom volunteers and advocates for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).  Tom shares his tragic story at all of the local high schools in addition to the Victim Impact Panel for DUI offenders in hopes to make a change and save lives.

Tom is married to his wife, Sherrie, and lives in Folsom where they raised their two sons, Dalton and Dylan.  Tom also has a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and enjoys kayaking.

 

P4Dean Wiley – Second Vice President

After growing up in a 3rd generation termite control family, Dean decided to try his hand in pest control. After graduating from High School in 1985, he moved from his home town of Yucaipa California to Orange County California to start working for Newport Exterminating. He began running a route, moved into sales and now manages their Pest Control Division. Dean holds a Branch 2 Operators, Branch 3 Field Rep and a Qualified Applicator License in categories A and B.

He lives in Mission Viejo California with his beautiful wife Andrea and daughter Mia. He also enjoys playing golf.

 

Greg Augustine – Third Vice President

Greg, a native San Diegan, graduated from Christian High School and then attended UCLA for a degree in Business-Economics and started his first job as a CPA for a public accounting firm; Touche Ross & Co. Greg’s family has always been heavily involved in the “bug business” and in 1984 he went to join his uncle, Jim Ogle, as the comptroller of Lloyd Pest Control in San Diego.  In 1995 He attended his first Pest Control Operators of California district meeting and was elected Chairman of the San Diego District. Since, he has been an active member of PCOC at the district and state level, serving on many committees as Chairman.  He and his wife of 35 years, Mary, bought Harbor Pest Control in 2002 from John and Kate Morgenroth and have been expanding the business ever since.  He is still an operator in all three branches of pest control and holds his QAL agricultural pest control license.  Greg and Mary have resided in the San Diego area for 33 years, raising their four children and growing Harbor Pest Control while maintaining family values and hands on decision making and relationship building with their employees. They enjoy traveling to visit their children in various states, sailing and quality time with one another. Greg believes that paying more attention to people than numbers and taking care of both employees and customers will always result in good growth and business. As he says, “whether the company is large or small, if it is professional and ethical, it will stand the test of time.”

 

Mary Hernandez – Secretary 

Mary Hernandez was born and raised in Louisville Kentucky. One of five daughters, Mary was raised to believe that there was nothing a woman could not accomplish with education, hard work and determination. Mary graduated from The University of Louisville and met and married her husband Ed while he was stationed as an Army officer in Fort Knox, KY.

Mary and Ed moved to California 25 years ago where they have raised their four daughters Emily, Elizabeth, Judith and Rachel. In 2005, they bought Hernandez Sewing, a heavy material construction company, and in 2008 they purchased Mission City Fumigation of Santa Maria. Mary has worked tirelessly to grow and expand both businesses since that time. She believes in working side by side with her staff and that great customer service is vital to success.

Mary has been a Director for the Santa Barbara District of the PCOC for the past 8 years and served as the District Treasurer for 4 years. She has also served on the Scholarship Committee for 3 years and Committee Chair for PWIPM, a new committee added in 2017. She holds a Branch 1 Field Rep license.

Mary currently resides in Santa Maria where she and her family enjoy all the beauty of the Central Coast. She is passionate about serving her community where she sits on several boards; Santa Maria Women’s Network, The Teal Journey (ovarian cancer awareness) and Bubbles for Breast Cancer. She loves traveling, working out (YMCA) and eating out. Life is short….enjoy every little moment!

 

Sylvia Kenmuir – Affiliate Representative 

Sylvia Kenmuir is a native Californian. It was at Long Beach City College where a zoology class helped her discover her passion for “bugs”. She is a graduate from California Polytechnic, Pomona with a BS in Biology. During her college years, she answered an employment ad for a receptionist at a “Target”. Thinking it was “Target” the store she had no idea it would lead to a 30 year career for a different Target that had to do with bugs!

Sylvia’s role at Target Specialty Products is Director of Technical Training and she is responsible for all customer training nationwide. She is a Board Certified Entomologist and holds a Qualified Applicators License, and Pest Control Advisers license.

Sylvia attended her first PCOC board of directors meeting in 2013. It was at a Branch 3 committee meeting that Sylvia found a way she and Target could assist the association with training courses. In 2016, the need arose for specialized training for urban rodent management and the West Coast Rodent Academy was created with Sylvia appointed as chair. This training event not only provided quality training but has raised funds for much-needed research. This is one of her proudest accomplishments. In her role as the Affiliate Representatuve to the PCOC executive board , she plans to further the training and education  role PCOC can provide to its members.

She currently resides in Southern California and has a son (Tripp) who is an Arizona State graduate. He was a lucky recipient of a PCOC scholarship in 2014 which helped him go to Panama to study biology.

 

 

PCOC Staff

Chris Reardon - EVPChris Reardon – Executive Vice President

Prior to becoming Executive Vice President, Chris most recently was Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). He was appointed as Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) in 2008 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and was re-appointed in 2012 by Governor Jerry Brown. Prior to holding that position, he served as DPR’s Director of Legislation and Regulations, appointed by Governor Gray Davis in 2003.

Before joining DPR, Chris was Executive Director for the Manufacturer’s Council of the Central Valley. He also spent time in the Legislature as Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Sal Cannella, and also worked for Assembly Member Jim Costa. He is a native New Yorker, and came to California in 1983 while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the California State University at Stanislaus. Chris is married to his wife Maria and has two grown children, Samantha and Kelsey. He enjoys traveling and and actively participating in several sports, including softball and golf.

 

Jenai ZeringueJenai Zeringue –  Financial Services
Jenai came to PCOC in April of 2007 having worked at Marsh for two years prior to that. Her extensive Administrative experience brings much needed support to PCOC. She was born and raised in Sacramento and is continuing her education at Sacramento City College.
